Peter C:
I make YOU feel old? And here I'm talking about the Rogers Swivomatic! I got moss growing on parts where you ain't got parts!
I received the pedal as a prototype and began putting the thing thru the works. When I got into trouble with the cam business, I contacted DW and Bob Gatzen. I had to learn to make extremely fine adjustments...not something I'm accustomed to doing. But it all worked out and I really like the way this pedal handles...on several bass drums with varying hoops (again, a learning experience, but once learned, in the bag!)
By the way, you can really crank the tension (on b.d pedal and hi-hat) for maximum resistance, good news for loud, heel-up players....something I noticed in the thread.
But Peter, I agree with you. At first, I was really thrown by that cam thing hitting the head. But once I got the hang of adjusting the little slider, I found I could get a range of action. Pitty the poor drummer who has to figure this out at the gig, though. The instructions that come with the pedal are less than comprehensive. On the other hand, DW has a good help line.
For me it's been a radical pedal, although maybe it won't rank up there with the invention with steam power in the history books. But it's a solid (or smooth!) alternative to the chain drive/strap drive pedal. If I can hang onto this thing and keep it for gigs, I will gladly do so. Some negotiating ahead.
WB
Willy - Thanks for the note. LOL
I did work with the little lever.
The thing is that I really like
the action, with the mechanism,
set way out. It's just me, I
guess. When the beater lever is
tilted back, towards the drummer,
that pullback, off the head, is
the greatest. That's what I love
and where my Axis A is set.
Randy - I know what you mean. I
do think that the recent A's are
more stable and if there are is-
sues with the VDL holding onto
the setting, a little sand paper
on that screw will do the trick.
Oh, Willy and Randy - thanks for
all the great info.
Really appreciate it.

PS: I might have to buy one or
two of these after all.

anytime PC...........that's what it's all about, sharing the info.
Peter, I have been following your very insightful reports on pedals here and on the virgil messageboard.
So...you can take one pedal to a desert island, Gatzen, Eliminator or the Axis A. Which would it be ?
Thanks for all the information.
i'm gonna go broke because of this board! awhile back everyone was talking about steve's (holmes) 'dunnet' snare and how great it was....so i bought one...and love it by the way. next thing everyone's talking about the DW 9002 pedal...bought one...really like it (but i don't absolutley love it) so now i plunk down god know's how much for this new pedal? i gotta do it! oh yeah...almost forgot the 'artisan' series rides...$450! sweet!
If I HAD TO choose between them,
right now, it would have to be
the Axis-A Longboard. However,
I am VERY intrigued by the new
Gatzen Boa-Pedal and believe in
the design. I sure wish it had
a longboard, though. I really
love longboards.
But, like Randy and Derek, on
Virgil's, it's nice having a
few pedals. Isn't it?
LOL

i don't feel the adjustments ae AS fine as say the AXIS which to me is NOT road friendly, or at least for me back when the pedal first came out i was having problems with adjustments and constantly on the phone with Darryl and having it sent back for repair.
